And about...The Quakers aren't Christian? WTF?

And about "small" denominations, they used to say that about the fundamentalists in the states as well when I was a child.Bradleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00878086886816560424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8443447842611499359.post-37852171320989699382010-03-04T10:28:57.747+00:002010-03-04T10:28:57.747+00:00Anonymous

In their thousands.
Some raise their own from previous marriages, others their own from sperm donation, others their own adopted ones.

I could just about follow your argument if you said that straight couples who have come by their families through previous relationship, IVF, sperm donation or adoption are not properly married.
Different but equal.
And that people who marry after the woman's menopause or where one partner is known to be infertile ought to enter into civil partnerships instead to document their different biological status.

Unless the church starts to make those biological distinctions for straight couples I will not accept them for me, my wife, our 4 children and 3 grandchildren.Erika Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01812376497361267014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8443447842611499359.post-61215598006043266442010-03-03T19:34:47.633+00:002010-03-03T19:34:47.633+00:00Well, I'm a gay priest and I think that there&...Well, I'm a gay priest and I think that there's a very real distinction between marriage and civil partnership. They are different - but equal. For Christians 'marriage' normally denotes the possibility of children: it's in the rite. Gay and straight relationships are also qualitatively different - and to state this impiles nothing of lesser and greater quality. If I were to be partnered, I absolutely would deny that I am married - but I would like a Church blessing if, and only if, this was not significantly divisive.

"Three faith communities — Liberal Judaism, the Quakers, and the Unitarians — have decided that they wish to register civil partnerships on their premises." None are Christian - all are liberal, with, in the latter two cases, fewer than 20,000 adherents combined. I'm not too worried what they think!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
